The northwest China is a vast territory with a sparse population, together with fragile ecological environment and a lack of advanced exploration means and tools for comprehensive and integrated observation. Huang Jianping and his team spent a decade or so to establish the first semi-arid climate and environmental monitoring station with international standards in the northwestern areas of China. They also invented Mobile Observation System, which can be used under the sever conditions in the wild, and this invention also won the national invention patent. The team conducted fixed-point and continuous observation in the arid and semi-arid area in the northwest of China and organized several large-scale wild comprehensive observation trials with international influence, thereby having gained first-hand information about the arid and semi-arid area in the northwest for a long time.
