1. Good day to you, Mr. Tian! The College of Atmospheric Sciences develops well in recent years. These achievements are inseparable from the hard work of all the staff including you. As the new dean of the College, can you elaborate on the achievements in the academic and scientific research of the College last year? In your opinion, what are the underlying reasons for these gratifying changes?
Tian Wenshou: Firstly, our university has formed an atmosphere of “struggling”; secondly, the teachers and students emancipate their minds, excluding the disadvantages, and taking the initiative; thirdly, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and other departments of our university.

2. At the end of last year, the College summarized the weakness such as “fewer papers with high impact, fewer large projects, and less awards' in scientific research. Combined with the background of 'double first-class' construction, what are the plans and measures for the next step in building an academic peak and further enhancing the overall competitiveness of the college?
Tian Wenshou: The fundamental reason for the weakness of the college is that few people can serve as the chief scientist and leader talents; the advantage direction of the discipline is single; large projects are easy to be saturated; and it is impossible to achieve multi-faceted and multi-faceted development. Vigorously cultivating and introducing leading talents is the top priority of the construction of the talent team in the future.
3. The university designated this year as the 'Team Construction Year.' In its summary at the end of last year, the College of Atmospheric Sciences also regarded 'increasing the introduction of talents' as one of the objectives of its annual work. How it is going?
Tian Wenshou: The College took the initiative to publicize the talent policy at the international conference and attract outstanding talents to join the College. The college has always adhered to the principle that there is shortage rather than abuse. Generally speaking, we have achieved obvious results in the cultivation of talents, and it will take a long time to introduce talents.

4. This year, the university has set the target of “Highlight Project” for each department of each college. The College of Atmospheric Sciences will strengthen the construction of “key teaching and research platform” as the target highlight project. At present, what is the promotion of the “Highlight Project” of the College?
Tian Wenshou: The College has made great achievements in the teaching and research platform: The construction of the national meridian project of Lanzhou station phrase-II jointly built by the school and the National Space Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is under way; the construction of the Tajikistan station of the 'Belt and Road Initiative' lidar network of Lanzhou University has been started; the collaborative innovation center jointly built by the Ministry of Ecological Security in the western region has been recognized by the Ministry of Education; The superstation of atmospheric environmental monitoring built by Lanzhou University and Gansu Provincial Environmental Monitoring Station is about to be put into operation, and the Research Center of Earth system Model Development of Lanzhou University has been established.

5. The 110th anniversary of Lanzhou University will be celebrated on September 17. It is also an important milestone for the College of Atmospheric Sciences. How is the alumni work and celebration work of the College? Do you have suggestions or ideas on the celebration work carried out by our university? What are your wishes for the teachers and students of the College for the 110th anniversary of the University of Lanzhou?
Tian Wenshou: In order to celebrate the 110th anniversary, the College established Atmospheric Science Branch of the Lanzhou University Alumni Association. Old alumni were invited to write about the cultural heritage and history of the College; Academic lectures were hold; and alumni were warmly welcomed. These activities have enhanced the social reputation of Lanzhou University's atmospheric discipline and created a good research atmosphere for the College. At the school level, the celebration activities are more colorful and connotative, which greatly enhances the society's perception and recognition of Lanzhou University. At the 110th anniversary, our teachers and students of the College sincerely wish Lanzhou University not forgetting the initial heart, persisting in struggle and creating glory!
