To deepen the reform of undergraduate education and broaden students’ horizons, the School of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University held a series of “Academic Week” activities from August 31st to September 4th. During the period, Chou Jifan, Honorary Dean of the Academy, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Hu Yongyun of Peking University, Professor Zhao Kun of Nanjing University, and Researcher Zheng Fei of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have brought an academic feast for teachers and students through the ways of online and offline.
Chou Jifan gave an online report entitled “The Nonlinear Characteristics of the Long-term Behavior of Thermal Dissipation Fluids”. Focusing on the thermal dissipation of fluids, Chou Jifan explained the concept and specific content of the nonlinear characteristics of atmospheric fluids. He also elaborated the relationship between adiabatic non-dissipation in the short-term and the long-term thermal dissipation and linearity and nonlinearity. Hu Yongyun and Zheng Fei respectively brought academic reports entitled “Modern Climate Change” and “El Ni?o (El Nino): The Black Hand Behind Climate Change” to the students. With the topic of “Radar Observation and Early Warning of Disastrous Weather”, Zhao Kun introduced to the students the development history of radar technology and the research prospect of disastrous weather radar.
The School also invited Li Ruping, the teacher from the school’s employment guidance and service center, and Zheng Hao, the teacher from school’s youth league committee, to give reports to the students on the theme of career planning and entrepreneurship improvement. Besides, the 'double first-class' construction and research directions of the School were introduced. Some young teachers introduced their research fields and progress.
