The College of Atmospheric Sciences is one of the first batch of units with the right to grant master's and doctoral degrees and the first batch of post-doctoral research mobile stations in China. The School of Atmospheric Sciences currently has the right to grant doctorate degrees in the first-level disciplines of Atmospheric Science approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and has 3 second-level doctoral programs and 4 second-level master programs. The College has 1 mobile post-doctoral research station for Atmospheric Science, 1 national key cultivated discipline of Atmospheric Physics and atmospheric environment, 1 key discipline of Gansu Province, 1 special specialty construction site for national colleges and universities in Atmospheric Science, 1 base for atmospheric science scientific research and talent training jointly established with the China Meteorological Administration, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, and 4 research institutes and 3 centers. In 2017, the discipline of Atmospheric Science was selected into the list of national first-class disciplines, and the development of the college entered a new era. In 2019, Atmospheric Science was selected as a national-level first-class professional construction site, and Applied Meteorology was selected as a provincial-level first-class professional construction site, and the Atmospheric Science Talent Training Base was approved as a provincial-level top-notch student training base. The College pays attention to international academic exchanges and cooperation, and has established friendly contacts with universities, research institutions or business centers such as MIT, NCAR, CIMMS, CAPS, NCEP, etc., the University of Tokyo in Japan, the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, and ICTP in Italy. In the school assessment, the graduate entrance examination rate and one-time allocation rate of the College of Atmospheric Sciences, as well as the per capita amount of research funding for higher vocational colleges, are among the forefront of Lanzhou University, showing a good momentum of development. The College currently has three undergraduate professional classes, namely, Atmospheric Science (basic theory), Atmospheric Science, and Applied Meteorology. It enrolls about 150 undergraduates every year. The employment rate and postgraduate entrance examination rate of undergraduates have always been among the highest in Lanzhou University. With the disciplinary advantages, unique talent training, complete teaching system, practical teaching characteristics, and scientific research foundation, a unique teaching, scientific research and personnel training system with a complete scientific system has been formed, and has become an irreplaceable highland for atmospheric science personnel training in the western region.
