Recently, the 'First National Undergraduate Weather Forecasting Skills Competition for Atmospheric Science' jointly organized by the National Meteorological Science and Education Integration Innovation Alliance and Lanzhou University came to a successful conclusion at Lanzhou University. Wang Jinxing, representative of the National Meteorological Science and Education Integration Innovation Alliance and Vice President of the China Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Yang Qiguo, member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau, Chen Ximeng, member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Lanzhou University, relevant persons in charge of the Student Affairs Department, Academic Affairs Office, and the College of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University Party Committee, competition judges and other leading guests attended the closing ceremony and presented awards. Tian Xulong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University, presided over the closing ceremony.
The competition mainly tests students' ability to analyze weather maps and their proficiency in using conventional weather data for weather analysis and short-term weather forecasting. A total of 95 participants from 14 universities and 19 teams in the field of atmospheric science across the country participated in the competition.
After intense competition, two teams from Lanzhou University won the first prize as a team. Four teams, including the second team from Chengdu University of Information Science and Technology, the team from Yunnan University, the team from China Civil Aviation Flight Academy, and the third team from Chengdu University of Information Science and Technology, won the second prize as a team. Six teams, including the third team from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, the team from National University of Defense Technology, the first team from Chengdu University of Information Science and Technology, the team from Ocean University of China, the first team from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and the team from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), won the third prize as a team.
