On September 12-13, freshmen 2020 from all over the country, carrying the hopes of their families and dreams for the future, entered the College of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University and opened their long-awaited university life.
The College makes preparations carefully to ensure the standardization and humanization of this work. By means of online freshman class meeting and one-to-one telephone communication, the College will first learn about freshmen, guide the enrollment process, answer questions and ensure that every freshman and their parents are aware of the College's orientation, epidemic prevention and control requirements, and ensure that every freshman can registered safely.
The College provides reasonable deployment, simple and fast registration procedures. On the basis of the previous one-stop service, the college has optimized the registration process and realized the 'direct access' in an all-round way. The College also specially customized the “College Motto Coke” to show the College culture for the newly enrolled “Xiao Meng Xin”, and carried out photo wall activities to help freshmen open colorful college life. College leaders and class headmasters also communicate with new students and their parents. The Welcome Ceremony brings the distance closer. On the afternoon of September 13, the College held the Welcome Ceremony and parent meeting for 2020 undergraduate freshmen at C302 Tianshan Hall, Yuzhong campus. Members of the College’s party and government leadership team, department heads, class headmasters, teacher representatives, representatives of alumni, Student representatives, and all 2020 undergraduate freshmen attended the ceremony.
Dean Tian Wenshou gave the “the first lesson of the university” to all freshmen with the title of “Strengthening and Cultivating Talents in a Majestic New Chapter”, in which the academy history is the main content. He introduced the College’s development strategy, subject characteristics and talent training model, and put forward expectations to the 2020 freshmen. He hoped that the students would work hard and not be discouraged when encountering difficulties, and treat themselves strictly with high requirements and high standards. He encouraged freshmen to acquire knowledge and strive for better development in the future.
The teacher representative Professor Zhang Lei introduced the situation of atmospheric science, hoping that the freshmen can lay a solid foundation in the undergraduate period and strive to seize each opportunity. Engineer Wei Dong, a representative of alumni, a graduate of 2008 major in atmospheric science, and deputy director of the Lanzhou Central Meteorological Observatory’s weather forecasting office, reviewed the four years of studying and living in the College. He hopes that students will enrich themselves during the four years and encourage them to join colorful activities to improve their interpersonal skills. Xia Zihan from the 2018 Atmospheric Science Base Class and Kong Mengyao gave speeches on behalf of the students and freshmen.
Secretary of the Party Committee Wang Weiguo sent a message to freshmen, hoping that everyone will strengthen their ideals and convictions, cultivate family and country feelings, and connect their personal ideals with the country's destiny. At the same time, he hopes that freshmen are good at planning themselves, tapping potential, and realizing their own value. The teachers participating in the meeting answered the questions from the parents in detail, and issued letters of appointment to the class headmasters and deputy class headmasters of the 2020 freshmen.

Entrance education enriches the freshmen's mind. On September 14, the College held the entrance education and grade conference for 2020 freshmen. Zheng Shuang, a full-time counselor for the class of 2020, introduced the precautions to the students and encouraged everyone to adjust their mentality as soon as possible to better and faster adapt to the university study and life.
