       Lanzhou University is one of the key national comprehensive universities and key construction universities of “985 Project” and “211 Project” in China. Early in the 1970s, the Atmospheric Science major of Lanzhou University, which is one of the earliest scientific and research institutions that did assessment on environmental influence, started pollution meteorological observation and photochemical smog research in the industrial area of Xigu District. In 1989, based on the Atmospheric Science major, the Center of Environmental Influence Assessment was established by Lanzhou University as the professional enforcement institution of environmental influence assessment business and in charges of related research works.

       The Center of Environmental Influence Assessment of Lanzhou University consists of several organizations, which are offices, assessment rooms, laboratories of analysis testing and data simulation, applied laboratories, archives rooms and technical review board. At present, there are 29 full time technical staff in total, in which 11 engineers of environmental influence assessment. There are 15 professors, 10 associate professors, 1 senior engineer, 2 engineers and 1 lecture. 16 of them are doctors while 4 are postgraduates. Professional fields of these full time technical staff cover disciplines as follows: atmospheric environment, environmental projects, hydrogeology, environmental chemistry, ecology, environmental science, physical geography, chemical analysis, experimental instruments, atmospheric exploration, atmospheric physics and atmospheric environment.

       More than 30 years since its establishment, the center starts from characteristics of northwestern area of China and devotes to serve local economic development and environmental protection cause. Various research and technical service provided by the center were well received by related departments. The center accumulated rich experience in scientific research fields of environmental influence assessment, environment planning, environment management, published many high-level papers of research on environmental influence assessment and developed many talents of environmental protection with solid fundamental knowledge.
