On October 5-7, a group of 5 people, including Huang Jianping, the professor of the College of Atmospheric Sciences and the director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Western Ecological Safety, and Professor Huang Zhongwei, the deputy Dean of the College of Atmospheric Sciences, visited Ruoqiang County and attended the inauguration ceremony of the Lanzhou University “Belt and Road” lidar network Ruoqiang Station on the morning of the 6th.

Prof. Huang Jianping and Ren Wei, the Director of Ruoqiang Meteorological Bureau, jointly unveiled the “Belt and Road” lidar network Ruoqiang Station

Huang Jianping delivered a speech at the inauguration ceremony. He briefly introduced the construction background of Lanzhou University’s “Belt and Road” lidar network and emphasized that the completion of the radar network Ruoqiang Station will improve meteorological detection of Ruoqiang Meteorological Bureau and become a new collaboration between bureau and school, which also opens a new chapter in the joint service of Lanzhou University and Uygur Autonomous Regional Meteorological Service in major national strategies. Ren Wei thanked Lanzhou University for the establishment of the “Belt and Road” lidar network in Ruoqiang, and expressed that he would fully support and cooperate with the team of Lanzhou University to jointly improve the development of Ruoqiang’s meteorological cause.
After the ceremony, Huang Jianping and his party held a discussion with He Qing, deputy director of the Uygur Autonomous Regional Meteorological Service, and others. The two parties had in-depth exchanges on deepening the bureau-school strategic cooperation between Lanzhou University and Uygur Autonomous Regional Meteorological Service, jointly building observation stations, training high-level talents, promoting scientific research, and improving the level of weather forecasting. The two sides also focused on the prevention and mitigation of meteorological disasters in the arid areas of southern Xinjiang, ecological environmental protection, and artificial precipitation in high-altitude mountainous areas, to alleviate the severe water shortage in the region and serve the construction of ecological civilization in southern Xinjiang.

Prof. Huang Jianping held a symposium with researcher He Qing

The two sides discussed the plan of artificial rain increase in Ruoqiang

News background:
It is reported that Lanzhou University’s “Belt and Road” Lidar Observation Network was initiated by Lanzhou University and jointly established by domestic and foreign meteorological and environmental protection departments and research institutes, taking the national “Belt and Road” initiative and “double first-class” construction as an opportunity. The construction of the observation network is not only aimed at developing high-precision, high-resolution weather disaster forecasting, early warning systems covering countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”, and monitoring the long-distance transmission of sand and dust and the local diffusion laws of atmospheric compound pollutants such as haze to serve the social and economic development such as railways and logistics transportation, it will also play an active role in the research of global climate change and the calibration of our country’s satellite-borne lidar.
Lanzhou University “Belt and Road” lidar network Ruoqiang Station is jointly built by Lanzhou University, Uygur Autonomous Regional Meteorological Service, and Urumqi Desert Meteorological Institute of China Meteorological Administration. The main equipment in this station are multiband Raman polarized lidar, multi-channel microwave radiometer, sun-sky-moon photometer and particulate matter on-line monitor, etc., which are independently developed by Lanzhou University. The station will improve the forecasting and early warning capabilities of disasters such as sandstorms and extreme heavy precipitation in southern Xinjiang, provide scientific and technological support for the implementation of artificial rainfall and effective use of air cloud water resources in the Altun Mountain area, and serve the economic and social development as well as ecological environment protection of Ruoqiang.
