In order to deeply implement the fundamental task of enhancing moral education and cultivating talents, and further improve the quality of talent training, the College of Atmospheric Sciences held a series of summer school activities in 2022 from July 11 to July 22, including academic lectures, international exchanges, professional practice and training, social practice, teachers' collective lesson preparation and teaching seminars. These activities help undergraduate students expand their academic vision, enhance their professional quality, stimulate their interest in scientific research, promote the comprehensive development of students' quality, and promote the reform of undergraduate education and teaching.

Academic Exchange Expands the Vision of Academic Research

The college invited well-known experts at home and abroad to hold special lectures and hold the 2022 summer 'International Curriculum and Practice Week' course, striving to build a domestic and international academic exchange platform, further stimulate undergraduate students' professional interests, enhance professional awareness, build a solid academic foundation, improve learning ability, and expand scientific research and academic vision.

In order to further strengthen international scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges, and promote the construction of all English and bilingual courses, the college held an international course week, and invited well-known foreign experts to offer all English courses and English academic lectures. During this period, Professor David M. Schultz of Manchester University in the UK and Professor Khan Alam of Peshawar University in Pakistan set up international courses, laying a solid foundation for training top-notch innovative talents with international vision and potential to lead the development of disciplines.
From July 11-22, the College invited Professor Qian Weihong of Peking University, Researchers Sun Jianqi, Hu Bo and Liu Zirui of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Lin Yanluan of Tsinghua University, Professor Li Jianping of Ocean University of China, Professor Li Rui of the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Cao Long of Zhejiang University, Professor He Wenping of Zhongshan University, researcher Han Wei of the China Meteorological Administration and researcher Feng Wuhu of the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom and many well-known experts in the academic field of atmospheric scienceheld 18 brilliant academic lectures, covering the sharing of cutting-edge theories, popularization of scientific knowledge, paper writing skills training, improvement of scientific research literacy, etc., to help students enter the forefront of learning, further consolidate professional knowledge, and improve their interest in academic research.

In order to help students better plan their learning path and fully implement the 'two early plans' of early access to laboratories and scientific research, the College held an academic salon on July 22, inviting Xie Qian, a 2021 doctoral student, to share his undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral journey. It provides a good communication and exchange platform for teachers and students of the college, and also plays a positive role in improving the scientific research level of undergraduate students and encouraging them to participate in academic research and innovation, so that everyone can reap a lot.

Unite knowledge and practiceStrengthen practical ability

In order to further enhance students' ability to combine professional theoretical knowledge with practical application, and help students intuitively understand the operating mechanism of the meteorological business department, 140 undergraduate students of 2019 class and leading teachers carried out a five-day practice teaching activity of the meteorological business system combining provinces, cities and counties from July 4 to 8.

Teachers and students went to Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau, Baiyin Municipal Meteorological Bureau, Wushaoling National Climate Reference Station, Wuwei Desert Ecological and Agricultural Meteorological Experiment Station, Wuwei Municipal Meteorological Bureau, Zhangye Municipal Meteorological Bureau and other places to visit and learn about the weather forecast business flow of the meteorological system along the Hexi Corridor, conventional meteorological element observation instruments and principles, new instruments and equipment and observation content, artificial rainfall, weather consultation and the influence of weather on agricultural production.

To further strengthen the cooperation between the Bureau and the University, during this internship, the College cooperated with Baiyin Meteorological Bureau, Wushaoling Meteorological Station, Wuwei Desert Station, Zhangye Meteorological Bureau and Zhangye National Observatory to build the 'Atmospheric Science Teaching Practice Base', and held a listing ceremony.

In this comprehensive practice, the students were fully familiar with the institutional setup, business process and work content of the meteorological department, laying a solid foundation for students to carry out scientific research and move to work in the future.

'Prepare' for excellence and improve the quality of education and teaching

In order to unite teachers' efforts, create a good teaching and research atmosphere, and improve the quality of education and teaching, from July 11 to 22, the teaching teams of all professional courses of the college organized and carried out collective lesson preparation and teaching seminars. The new teaching mode combining ideological and political education, textbook construction, virtual simulation experiment teaching project and online and offline teaching is discussed to help improve the teaching effect of undergraduate courses.

Collective lesson preparation strengthens the sense of cooperation among teachers, gives full play to collective wisdom, achieves complementary advantages and resource sharing, provides a strong guarantee for improving the quality of undergraduate education and teaching, and also lays a good foundation for high-quality talent training.
In the face of the sudden test of the epidemic, all teachers and students, under the strong leadership of the college's Party Committee, adhere to the 'people-oriented' principle, and carried out a multi-level and all-round characteristic learning and practice activities, and successfully completed a series of summer school activities. While helping students to gain theoretical knowledge and improve practical skills, it broadens students' international vision and improves their cross-cultural communication ability. At the same time, it promotes the internationalization process of the college's education and teaching, strengthens the exchange and cooperation between the college and foreign scholars, and helps to cultivate high-quality talents with international vision and international competitiveness.
