The seminar on “Background and Attribution of Extreme Climate Change” sponsored by College of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University and the School of Atmospheric Sciences of Sun Yat-sen University was successfully held in Lanzhou on August 18. More than 60 experts and scholars from the College of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University, the School of Atmospheric Sciences of Sun Yat-sen University, the Northwest Institute of Ecological Environment Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qinghai Normal University, Lanzhou Resources and Environment Vocational and Technical University and other institutions participated the seminar.

 

 

       On the morning of the 18th, the seminar was opened under the chairmanship of Professor Tian Wenshou, Dean of the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University. First, Academician Huang Jianping from the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University delivered an opening speech, expressing a sincere welcome to the experts and scholars present and providing theoretical explanations on how to accurately predict the occurrence of extreme events. Professor Yang Song from the School of Atmospheric Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University emphasized the importance of this seminar and looked forward to deepening the understanding of the background and attribution of frequent extreme weather events through mutual exchanges and discussions among experts and scholars.
       Subsequently, 20 experts and scholars, including Professor Yang Song, Professor Wang Chenghai, and Researcher Meng Xianhong, gave keynote speeches on topics such as high temperature heatwaves, extreme precipitation, cold waves, and sandstorms, sharing the latest research progress in the field of extreme weather. The attending experts and scholars had in-depth discussions on the content of the report.

 

 

       After the report, Professor Tian Wenshou and Professor Yang Song summarized and congratulated the successful holding of the conference. Professor Tian Wenshou pointed out that through the solid work done by many young scholars in their professional fields, we believe that we will have a deeper understanding of the background and attribution of frequent extreme weather events, which is conducive to improving our ability to predict and warn extreme weather events. Professor Yang Song pointed out that the conference successfully completed various agendas, promoted communication and exchange among experts and scholars, and laid a solid foundation for future work.
