Academician Huang Jianping of Lanzhou University was Elected as an Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries

       On October 31st, the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries (TWAS) elected 47 academicians from the Academy.The co elected academicians come from 24 countries and regions around the world, including 6 from Chinese Mainland. Professor Huang Jianping, an academician of the CAS Member and director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Ecological Security in the West of Lanzhou University, was elected as the only person elected in the field of geosciences in China in 2023. Professor Huang Jianping is rooted in the northwest and has long been committed to research on semi-arid climate change. His election is a high recognition and affirmation of Professor Huang's years of scientific research achievements by the international community, represented by developing countries.
       The Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries, formerly known as the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), was established on November 10, 1983. It was initiated by Professor Abdul Salam, a Nobel laureate in physics and a Pakistani physicist, and is headquartered in Trieste, Italy. The Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries is a non-governmental, non political, and non-profit international scientific organization dedicated to supporting and promoting scientific research in developing countries.
 
Introduction to Professor Huang Jianping
 
 
       Huang Jianping, Professor at the College of Atmospheric Science, Lanzhou University, and Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center for Western Ecological Security at Lanzhou University. He graduated from Nanjing Institute of Meteorology (now Nanjing University of Information Engineering) in 1982 with a bachelor's degree; He graduated from Lanzhou University in 1988 with a doctoral degree; He has been working at the College of Atmospheric Science, Lanzhou University since 2004. In 2021, he was elected as an academician of the CAS Member.
       Huang Jianping is mainly engaged in research on the mechanism and prediction of semi-arid climate change. He has achieved systematic innovation in the mechanisms of global semi-arid climate change, the physical mechanisms of sand and dust aerosols affecting semi-arid climate, and long-term numerical forecasting methods. He has published a total of 295 SCI papers (157 as first/corresponding author) and has been cited more than 17000 times, with an H-index of 70. He has been selected as a cited scholar by Korui Weian and Elsevier Gao. His research achievements have won two awards, namely the National Natural Science Second Prize (ranked first), the Gansu Provincial Natural Science First Prize (ranked first), the Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Progress First Prize (ranked first), and the Ministry of Education Natural Science Second Prize. Huang Jianping was the first recipient of a Chinese doctoral degree with outstanding contributions and the first recipient of the Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle aged Science Work Award. He currently serves as an editorial board member for academic journals such as Science Bulletin, Research, Atmospheric Chemistry, and Physics.
