       From November 1st to 4th, Ma Xiaojie, Secretary of the School Party Committee, led a delegation to visit the UK. During their visit to the UK, Ma Xiaojie and her delegation visited the Consul General of Manchester City, Tang Rui, and respectively visited the University of Leeds, University of Loughborough, and Trinity Saint David's University in Wales.        After arriving in Britain, Ma Xiaojie and his delegation paid a visit to Tang Rui, the Chinese Consul General in Manchester. Ma Xiaojie introduced to Tang Rui the cooperation between Lanzhou University and British universities and research institutions, as well as the purpose and expected results of this visit. Ma Xiaojie stated that during the more than 110 year history of Lanzhou University, the university has always adhered to the motto of 'self-improvement and uniqueness', walked a unique path of development, trained numerous outstanding talents, and formed the 'Lanzhou University phenomenon'. The university is committed to improving the level of international education and hopes to further increase cooperation with British universities with the support of Consul General Tang Rui, enhance the level of cooperation, and serve the overall education exchange work between China and the UK.

       Tang Rui said that the Consulate General in Manchester paid special attention to the exchange of higher education between China and Britain. The high-level universities in Manchester are relatively concentrated and play a leading role in the exchange of higher education between China and Britain. Lanzhou University is an important component of China's higher education landscape and one of the representatives of high-level universities in China. It has profound disciplinary advantages and cultural heritage, and should play an important role in promoting and enhancing cooperation with British universities. The Consulate General will provide necessary support for the internationalization development of the university.

       At the University of Leeds, Ma Xiaojie met with the acting president of the university, Professor Yu Haisui, to exchange in-depth views on the cooperation between the two schools and sign a memorandum on the university level cooperation. Both sides agree that Lanzhou University and the University of Leeds have similar disciplines and complementary advantages, and are outstanding representatives of higher education in their respective countries. The two sides have already carried out long-term and effective cooperation in the fields of talent cultivation and scientific research, laying a good foundation for wider and deeper exchanges between the two sides. The cooperation between the two universities also represents the direction and future of higher education cooperation between China and the UK. Both sides have the responsibility and obligation to address common challenges faced by humanity such as global climate change and public health security through cooperation. Ma Xiaojie expressed her hope to further consolidate and deepen comprehensive practical cooperation with the University of Leeds through this visit.        During the visit to the University of Leeds, the delegation held consultations and discussions with the heads of disciplines such as dentistry, chemistry, electronic engineering, atmospheric science, and mathematics. The two sides agreed to carry out close scientific research cooperation in areas such as carbon neutrality, environmental protection, new energy, new material research and development, air pollution monitoring and control, and support researchers from both sides to jointly apply for Sino British government research projects. Both parties have reached an agreement on talent joint training, degree joint teaching, teacher visits, and course resource sharing. Specific cooperation agreements will be negotiated and implemented item by item.

       At the University of Loughborough, Ma Xiaojie met with Professor Dan Parsons, the vice president in charge of research and innovation at the university. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on topics such as consultations on Earth Science cooperative education projects, research cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, talent cultivation and resource sharing in the field of sports science, and jointly hosting high-level international conferences. Both sides believe that the more than 30 year cooperation between some disciplines and scholars of the two universities has laid a solid foundation for broader and deeper exchanges, and they will encourage and support the cooperation of advantageous disciplines between the two universities.

       During the visit to the University of Loughborough, the delegation held detailed meetings and connections with the leaders and experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, engineering geology, engineering and physics, and civil engineering at the College of Science. Both parties agree to establish a regular communication mechanism in the fields of Earth Science, Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, Information Science, Management and Economics, Medicine, and Humanities and Arts, explore the establishment of an interdisciplinary workshop between Lanzhou University and Loughborough University, jointly organize academic seminars on related disciplines, support researchers in jointly applying for Sino British scientific research projects, and carry out joint doctoral training and short-term teacher growth visits.        At Trinity St. David's University in Wales, Ma Xiaojie met with the school's president, Professor Elvin Evans. Both sides fully exchanged views on the establishment, operation, and sustainable development of the jointly built Lanzhou University Wales College. Ma Xiaojie stated that the Welsh College of Lanzhou University is the first cooperative educational institution between the two sides. Its approval and good operation are the result of joint efforts by both sides, representing the highest level of cooperation between the two schools and of great significance to both sides. To continue ensuring the development of the Welsh College, we hope that the British side, with the support of the President, will continue to select high-level teachers to conduct teaching in Lanzhou, and provide quality assurance for the talent cultivation of the Welsh College through the quality assurance system of both China and the UK.Evans stated that Trinity St. David's University of Wales attaches great importance to cooperation with Lanzhou University, and the cooperation has yielded fruitful results. In the future, they will carefully study how to better support the development of Wales College from the perspectives of faculty support, resource matching, and quality assurance. Both parties agree to expand new areas of disciplinary cooperation on the basis of high-quality development at the Welsh College, explore closer cooperation in disciplines such as materials science, engineering, management, computer science, and chemistry, and establish channels for student long-term and short-term exchanges, teacher visits, and scientific research cooperation.
       During her visit to the UK, Ma Xiaojie also visited some alumni and exchange students.
       This visit is of special significance for further maintaining partnership, expanding new areas of international cooperation, and building a high-level platform for foreign exchange and cooperation. It is also an important exploration and specific practice for the school to enhance the level of international cooperation through high-level visits.
