To deepen university–institution collaboration and innovate mechanisms for collaborative talent cultivation, the College of Atmospheric Sciences conducted exchange and cooperation activities from January 4 to 7 with the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University, the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai) (hereinafter referred to as Southern Marine Laboratory), and the Lanzhou Meteorological Bureau. In-depth discussions were held on talent cultivation, scientific research, and student internships and practical training, leading to consensus on cooperation.
On January 4, Professor Dong Wenjie, Dean of the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Zheng Hui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, and Professor Yang Qinghua, Deputy Director of the Southern Marine Laboratory, visited the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University. Tian Xulong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, Professor Huang Zhongwei, Dean of the College, and other leadership members held discussions with the delegation. The three sides had in-depth exchanges on frontier developments in the discipline, collaborative research innovation, and talent cultivation models. Huang Zhongwei introduced Lanzhou University’s distinctive research directions and progress in arid meteorology, climate change, and eco-environmental effects. Dong Wenjie shared Sun Yat-sen University’s prominent achievements in monsoon dynamics, marine meteorology, and regional climate modeling. Yang Qinghua presented relevant information about the Southern Marine Laboratory. The symposium reached multiple consensuses in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. All parties expressed their intention to take this exchange as an opportunity to explore the establishment of closer and more regular cooperation mechanisms in areas such as joint application for major research projects, joint construction of high-level academic exchange platforms, and summer undergraduate practice visits, jointly contributing to the advancement of atmospheric sciences in China.

On January 7, to further solidify the foundation for undergraduate practical teaching and strengthen industry-university-research collaboration with operational departments, Tian Xulong, Huang Zhongwei, along with other college leaders and faculty representatives, made a dedicated visit to the Lanzhou Meteorological Bureau. Liu Xinwei, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Lanzhou Meteorological Bureau, introduced the meteorological forecasting and early warning operational platform and the weather modification command center. During the university–bureau cooperation symposium, the two sides had in-depth discussions on new demands in meteorological operations, new trends in meteorological scientific and technological innovation, and new pathways for cultivating interdisciplinary meteorological talents. The ceremony for the “Teaching Internship Base of the College of Atmospheric Sciences, Lanzhou University” was held. In the future, this base will serve as an important platform for students of the College to carry out professional orientation internships, production internships, and graduation practice. At the same time, both sides will take this opportunity to jointly conduct research, technical training, and data sharing, providing crucial support for localized meteorological services and working together to build a new paradigm for university–bureau cooperation.
