On the morning of July 8, the launch ceremony for the Second National Joint Internship and Scientific Field Expedition for Undergraduate Students in Atmospheric Sciences, along with the Summer Research and Learning Program "Meteorological Talents Cultivated in Gansu" co-organized by the Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau and Lanzhou University, was held at Guocheng Lecture Hall in the Chengguan Campus of Lanzhou University. The event aims to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions during his inspection tour in Gansu, strengthen contemporary meteorology students’ knowledge foundation, professional competence, and practical skills, and promote academic exchange among faculty and students in atmospheric sciences across China. The ceremony was attended by Bai Jingyu, Director of the Comprehensive Coordination Department at the Secretariat of the Chinese Meteorological Society; Yang Qiguo, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau; Xu Jiaci, General Manager of Beijing Juheng Bolian Technology Co., Ltd.; officials from the Science and Technology & Forecasting Department and Personnel Department of the Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau; representatives from the Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, and College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University; as well as teachers and students participating in the internship and field research program. The departure ceremony was hosted by Associate Dean Yang Yi from the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University.

Yang Yi introduced the organization, preparation, and participating institutions of the event. He noted that the Hexi Corridor field training route is one of the three classic field practice routes for atmospheric sciences at Lanzhou University and also one of the most sensitive regions to global climate change. The Qilian Mountains on its southern edge serve as a crucial ecological security barrier in China’s northwest, and he encouraged students to seize this internship opportunity to understand the importance of ecological conservation and sustainable development in the region. In her speech, Bai Jingyu stated that the event, centered on "exploring the climate mysteries around the Tibetan Plateau and empowering ecological protection in the Qilian Mountains," holds significant value in advancing the practice of the "dual carbon" strategy and supporting regional ecological conservation. Yang Qiguo emphasized in his address that this event brings together outstanding meteorology talents from universities across the country. It serves as a vital platform for integrating classroom theoretical knowledge with field practice, and is a key initiative to enhance undergraduate practical skills and cultivate top-tier meteorological professionals. Xu Jiaci reviewed the successful implementation of the first joint internship and scientific expedition, and extended congratulations on the continuation of this year's event. Professor Gao Si from Sun Yat-sen University and Zeng Xinyi, a 2022 student from Lanzhou University, delivered speeches on behalf of the faculty advisors and students respectively, expressing their enthusiasm and confidence in participating in field research.

At the event, Bai Jingyu, Yang Qiguo, and Xu Jiaci jointly presented the expedition flag to the joint internship team, and Guo Mingzhou, Dean of Academic Affairs at Lanzhou University, officially announced the departure of the joint internship expedition team.

In the coming days, meteorology students will set out with great aspirations to experience firsthand the weather and climate characteristics of the Qilian Mountains and the Hexi Corridor, immersing themselves in broader practices of atmospheric and climatic research.
