On September 28th, the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University held a seminar on the 20th anniversary of its establishment and the strategy for high-quality development of atmospheric science. More than 400 academicians, experts, alumni, guests, teachers and students from the China Meteorological Administration, meteorological bureaus of various provinces, cities and counties across the country, air traffic control systems, sister universities, and research institutes, totaling over 1200 people, gathered together to pay tribute to the 20-year journey of the College of Atmospheric Sciences and look forward to its future development. Yang Yongping, academician of the CAE Member and president of Lanzhou University, Chou Jifan, Wang Huijun, Zhang Renhe, Huang Jianping, academician of the CAS Member, Shen Xueshun, academician of the CAE Member, Huang Wei, deputy director of the Department of Science, Technology and Climate Change of the China Meteorological Administration, and Chen Ximeng, deputy president of Lanzhou University, attended the conference. The conference was presided over by Tian Xulong, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the college.
The meeting reviewed the 66 year development process of the atmospheric science discipline at Lanzhou University and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the College of Atmospheric Sciences, comprehensively showcasing the achievements of the atmospheric science discipline and looking forward to the grand prospects for the future. Yang Yongping pointed out that from the establishment of the Meteorology Teaching and Research Group in 1958 to the establishment of the first College of Atmospheric Sciences in Chinese universities by Lanzhou University in 2004, the meteorologists at Lanzhou University have always been at the forefront and committed to excellence. Huang Wei, on behalf of the China Meteorological Administration, extends congratulations and greetings to the faculty, students, and alumni of the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University. He stated that Lanzhou University is an important support for the development of meteorological science in China. The discipline is based on regional characteristics and has achieved a series of original achievements, which has strongly supported the vigorous development of China's meteorological science and technology. Lanzhou University is one of the first universities to sign the cooperation agreement between the bureau and the university.
