On the morning of June 19, to deepen collaboration between academia and industry, expand employment pathways for graduates, strengthen students’ professional identity, and support career planning, the College of Atmospheric Sciences visited the Sichuan Provincial Climate Center (Southwest Regional Climate Center) for a discussion with relevant personnel. The meeting was attended by Li Xiaolan, Director of the Center's Office, Tang Xinying, Deputy Director, and Deng Biao, Section Chief of the Service Department.

Li Xiaolan welcomed the visiting delegation and introduced the center’s core functions and operational focus. As a key provincial meteorological institution, the center has long been dedicated to critical areas such as climate forecasting, monitoring and assessment of climate change, and the development and utilization of climate resources. There is an urgent need for applied meteorological professionals to support the development of operational services, and we look forward to deepening collaboration with universities in the future to jointly cultivate high-quality, industry-ready specialists.
At the symposium, Yu Lian (Class of 2002) and Wang Guodong (Class of 2020), alumni of the college, shared their career experiences and insights into the industry based on personal journeys. Yu Lian encouraged underclassmen to "move beyond textbook 'classic cases' and actively explore interdisciplinary areas within the 'meteorology plus' landscape." Wang Guodong, as a newcomer to the workforce, advised younger students to seize every internship and hands-on opportunity, emphasizing that real-world experience in data analysis, cross-departmental coordination, and responding to emergencies is crucial for professional growth.Practical experience is essential for growth.
As a discipline under China's "Double First-Class" initiative, the College of Atmospheric Sciences at Lanzhou University has always taken it as its mission to "serve national strategies and lead industry development." This recent outreach effort not only opened up employment pathways for graduates but also deepened the integration of university and enterprise resources. Moving forward, the college will further strengthen collaboration with industry partners to ensure a smooth transition for more students from campus life to professional practice. These efforts will inject new momentum into the development of this world-class discipline and align talent cultivation in meteorology with regional economic and social progress.
