The Second "Meteorological Cup" National Meteorological Expertise Competition in Colleges and Universities was Held

       From July to December, the second 'Meteorological Cup' National Meteorological Expertise Competition in Colleges and Universities was Held in Lanzhou University to promote the development of meteorological undertakings and improve the professional skills of meteorological talents. The competition was hosted by the China Meteorological Administration and Lanzhou University and co-organized by the Academic Affairs Office and the College of Atmospheric Sciences of Lanzhou University. 124 teams from 18 provinces and 18 universities across the country participated in the competition. Among them, 7 universities and 13 teams entered the finals from December 17 to 19.

       On the morning of December 17, the final was held at the Guanyun Building, which was divided into five separate items: on-site answering, programming analysis, weather map analysis, historical case weather forecast and on-site question and answer. Each competition focused on assessing the professional knowledge and skills of each participating team. It is intended to guide the students to pay equal attention to the basic theory and practical application and to promote the transformation between the basic knowledge of meteorology and the practice of application.

       On the afternoon of December 19th, the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony of the competition was held in the lecture hall of the Yifu Science Museum. Yan Guanhua, chief of the Achievements Department of the Science and Technology Department of the China Meteorological Administration, Zhang Qiang, deputy director of the Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau, Qi Jing, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office of Lanzhou University, Prof. Tian Wenshou, director of the Jury of the Competition and dean of the College of Atmospheric Sciences, were invited to attend the closing ceremony. Wang Weiguo, secretary of the Party Committee of the College, presided over the meeting. At the closing ceremony, Tian Wenshou introduced the competition. Zhang Qiang read out the final results and the list of winners. The guests presented the awards and prizes to the winning team. Cheng Haoyuan, a student of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, addressed as an award-winning representative. Yan Guanhua expressed in his speech that the 'Meteorological Cup' is the only national-level meteorological professional event in China's colleges and universities which provides a professional arena for students of meteorological majors. It is a stage for demonstrating the spirit of meteorological students, and also a booster for meteorological talents. We look forward to more young people participating in the cause of combating climate change, joining large families studying weather and climate, bravely shouldering the heavy responsibilities entrusted by the times, bursting out the positive energy of youth with the vitality of youth and taking care of the weather and climate on which human beings depend for their survival.

       Lanzhou University sent 6 teams to participate in the competition. The players were brave enough and showed solid meteorological expertise and skills. They won 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 4 third prizes.

       The competition was arranged in a compact and interlocking manner to test the participants' basic theoretical knowledge, professional skills, teamwork awareness, and personal will quality. Through communication, the teams strengthened their professional knowledge and skills and had a clearer understanding of the current status of atmospheric science in China. At the same time, the players formed a deep friendship, honed their spiritual will, and enriched their life experience.
