On February 13, the Party Committee and the Government of Gansu Province held the “Gansu Provincial Science and Technology (Patent) Awards Conference” in Lanzhou, and commended the units and individuals who made contributions to the province's scientific and technological progress as well as economic and social development in 2018. The project “Integrated Detection Technology and Application of Environment and Climate Disasters” hosted by Prof. Jianping Huang of the College of Atmospheric Sciences and the project “the Mechanism and Therapeutic Value of Selective COX-2 Inhibitors in the Pathogenesis of Gastric Cancer” by Prof. Yongning Zhou of First Hospital of Lanzhou University the won the 'First Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Gansu Province'. Prof. Jianping Huang made a speech as the representative of award winners.
After more than ten years of exploration and innovation, Prof. Jianping Huang has developed a mobile observation system and a three-dimensional scanning environmental lidar suitable for monitoring environmental and climate disasters at the same time under extremely harsh conditions in the field. The technical problem of integrating different space-time scale environment and climate factors into the same system detection has been overcome. The key technology has become the demonstration standard and has been popularized and applied by domestic colleges and universities, scientific research institutes and meteorological departments. It has significantly improved the operational monitoring and forecasting ability of the China Meteorological Administration for sandstorms, droughts, and floods, and reduced the economic losses and casualties caused by natural disasters, which is of great practical significance to the national disaster prevention and mitigation.
Prof. Yongning Zhou presided over and led the team to complete the project “the Mechanism and Therapeutic Value of Selective COX-2 Inhibitors in the Pathogenesis of Gastric Cancer”. The concept of transformational medicine was applied. The project studied the molecular mechanism of COX-2, a key tumor-related molecule involved in the development of gastric cancer, and its role as a new target in the prevention and clinical treatment of gastric cancer. This achievement lays a theoretical foundation for elucidating the pathogenesis of gastric cancer, provides a new reliable molecular target for early diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer, and also provides an alternative for clinical treatment of gastric cancer.

Prof. Jianping Huang has long been rooted in the northwest region and led the team to study semi-arid climate change. After more than ten years of hard working, the semi-arid climate observation system in China has been built, and the main physical mechanism of semi-arid climate change has been expounded. The influence mechanism of dust aerosol on arid climate in northwest China is systematically revealed, and the related results won the second prize of National Natural Science in 2013. Prof. Jianping Huang has published more than 230 academic papers (including 165 in SCI) and 3 monographs. The team he led quickly developed into the first innovation research group of National Fund Committee in the field of semi-arid climate change, the first key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, and the first innovation-inducing base of the Ministry of Education.
Huang Jianping is a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, a distinguished professor of the Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education, an academic leader of the Innovation Fund of the National Fund Committee, a editorial board member of Scientific Reports and China Science: Earth Science, the chief writer of the first working group of the Fifth Assessment Report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the chief scientist of the National Major Scientific Research Project, and the first “Chinese doctorate with outstanding contributions”. Huang Jianping is also the winner of the first 'Zhao Jiuzhang Prize for Excellent Middle-Aged and Young Scientist', the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (ranked first), the national outstanding sci-tech workers and the winner of the National Innovation Award.
In the past 20 years, Professor Zhou Yongning has led the team to be committed to the clinical diagnosis and treatment of digestive system-related diseases, especially in the molecular mechanism and prevention and control of gastric cancer. In recent years, he has led 1 Huimin Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology “Model Demonstration of Prevention and Control of Malignant Tumor in High-incidence Areas of Wuwei City”, 2 National Key R&D Programs, 4 National Natural Science Foundation Projects, and 2 National Sci-Tech Support Program Projects. He has published more than 100 Chinese and foreign papers. In 2011, he was awarded the “First Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Gansu Province”. In 2012, he was entitled the “National Excellent Science and Technology Worker”. In 2015, he was entitled the 'The Person of the Year of Scientific Chinese(2014)' . In 2017 he was awarded the “China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Award”. In 2018, he was entitled the 'Gansu Province Excellent Leading Talents' by the Party Committee and the Government of Gansu Province.
The Department of Gastroenterology of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University is the National Key Clinical Specialist, Gansu Provincial Key Laboratory of Gastrointestinal Diseases, Gansu Provincial Gastroenterology Professional Medical Quality Control Center and Gansu Province Key Discipline of Gastroenterology. At present, there are more than 50 research teams, mainly focusing on the pathogenesis of gastric cancer and the prevention and control of early diagnosis and treatment. More than 20,000 research groups with a high incidence of gastric cancer have been established in the Wuwei area in the Scie-Tech Huimin Plan, and long-term research on prevention and control of gastric cancer has been carried out. Early detection markers of gastric cancer were searched by exome sequencing and gene chip detection to study the driving molecules and their mechanism in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer.
